    Description:
A great looking extremely fine or better 1779 Mexican crown size silver coin. This is the Charles III 8 Reales depicting the bust of King Charles the third of Spain on the obverse. The obverse of this large, silver dollar size coin, has the legend “CAROLUS.III.DEI.GRATIA” surrounding the king’s bust and the date 1779 below it. The reverse depicts the crowned arms of Spain between pillars with the legend “HESPAN.ET IND.REX” followed by the mint mark “Mo” then “8R. F.F.” all surrounding the arms. The coin has chop marks on both the obverse and the reverse indicating that it was circulated in the far east, possibly China. Apart from the fact that these coins were used extensively in the US before the silver dollars were circulated, it was also used in the far east until they were replaced with trade dollars. The coin is clean and lustrous and shows all the details very well. It is a truly a nice coin with great eye appeal and has nice heft to it.
